Dr Nicholas Embleton is a consultant neonatal paediatrician at the Newcastle Hospitals National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust and Honorary Reader in Neonatal Medicine, Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.

He specialises in translational research that includes large-scale National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) collaborative nutritional trials and mechanistic microbiomic and metabolomic studies (MAGPIE study) funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC)/Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME). He also has been coordinating the Newcastle Preterm Birth Growth study.

He is a clinical lead for a series of qualitative studies exploring the experiences of parents (and the staff who cared for them) who suffered a reproductive or neonatal loss (Butterfly project).

Dr Embleton is a member of the ESPGHAN Committee of Nutrition, was the chair of the British Association of Perinatal Medicine working party on donor expressed breast milk and is the chair of the UK-based multi-disciplinary Neonatal Nutrition Network (N3). He is an associate editor for Paediatric Research and a medical editor for Infant journal. He has more than 120 peer-reviewed publications.
